Parameter Prompt text (filter labels)
(the report parameter prompt) on the fly when generating a report?
For example, I have 2 people viewing a report -- one is in France and one is
in the US. In the report, the filter labels are currently all in English. I
have the French and English text stored in a database table -- so I was
thinking that I could use an expression to get the appropriate text from the
database, but I do not see an opportunity to use an expression for the prompt.
Any other ideas on how I could modify the text in a filter label on the fly?
Thank you,

The only thing I can think of is to try to conditionally modify the
underlying XML in the RDL file itself (though this is a long shot).
Ofcourse, there's always the custom application route that access the
rdl files internally (or maybe custom assembly: though I'm not
experienced in this area). Sorry to not be of greater assistance.

see that I can enter en expression, but when I try to put a query into the
expression, it seems to fail. Any ideas on this?

Parameter prompt based on expression
Hi,
Is it possible to construct the prompt (i.e. the text that is displayed next to the parameter text box when the report runs) for a parameter from an expression
Actually i have written some custom code and i want my parameter prompts to be populated based on the returned values from that custom code. I don't want these do be fixed texts.
Thanks,
Simranjeev
Can you use SWITCH option?
Igor.
|||But the Switch option is also used inside an expression, and i don't know how to create the parameter labels from expressions.
On my report, I have a parameter called "StartDate". I've given it the label "Start Date:". Now i want that when the locale of the user is English, this label should be displayed as "Start Date:" and when the locale of the user changes to some other language, lets say German, then the label should be displayed as the translated value for "Start Date:" in German.
I've already done this for the textboxes on my reports, by calling custom code which reads from resource files depending on user locale. I wanted to know if this is possible for parameter labels as well, as i couldn't find any option to do so.
Parameter passing to a DTS package
I have a DTS package that exports a query result from SQLServer to a text
file . I sheculed it daily.
What I want to do is give the text file name as paramaetric, I mean,
e.g. salesresultddmmhhss.txt ddmmhhss : run time day month hour and second
Is it possible?Hi
The DTSRun utility has a /A parameter that allows you to set the values of a
global variable. This can then be used to set the filename. If the name is
consistent you should be able to do this in code without passing a value.
You may also want to check out http://www.sqldts.com/default.aspx?292 for
renaming a file and http://www.sqldts.com/default.aspx?234

parameter cannot set the command text for dataset
Hello
I get the following error in a very quick test system i created:
An error occurred during local report processing.
An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot set the command text for data set 'test'.
Error during processing of the CommandText expression of dataset 'test'.
My sql is:
= "select T.testid, T.test from test T " & Iif(Parameters!test1.Value = 1, "", "Where T.testid = " & Parameters!test1.Value)
There is nothing obviously wrong in the code as far as i can see
The parameter 'test1' is of type 'string'
The database 'test' has 2 columns of type 'smallint' and 'Name:nvarchar(50)'
I am at a loss, as this query is really simple, and is similar to the example query set up my microsoft which works fine
Thanks
t.test from test?
You tried running this in sql?
|||Yes, it works fine in sql if you strip out the bits that obviously wont work in query analyser
this works:
= "select T.testid, T.test from test T " & Iif(1 = 1, "", "Where T.testid = 1" )
this does not:
= "select T.testid, T.test from test T " & Iif(1 = 1, "", "Where T.testid = " & Parameters!test1.Value)
why?
there is a parameter called test1
|||Found the answer!
You have to have another table with a different name into which the parameter links (in the section 'available values' / 'from query')
I created another table called test2, et voila! it works

Parameter as Column Name?
Greetings,
I am developing a search form that uses a DDL to select a column name and a text box to define a search term. Code follows:
1cmdSearch = New SqlCommand( "select * from sites where @.columnName like @.sTerm order by site_name", conSites)23cmdSearch.Parameters.Add( "@.columnName", SqlDbType.Text).Value=ColumnParam4cmdSearch.Parameters.Add( "@.sTerm", SqlDbType.Text).Value=searchParam
The problem I'm running into is that the @.variable appears to imply single quotes about the value. This is fine for @.sTerm, I just removed the quotes from the concatenation and it reads the value correctly, but it appears to break @.columnName and the query returns no values.
If I manually substitute an appropriate column for @.columnName sans single quotes, it works.
How can I eliminate the implied single quotes from @.columnName so that the query will read it properly?
You need to build your statement dynamically within your xp and execute it using sp_executesql system stored procedure. (Don't use the column variable in your sql.)
You should create a stored procedure to handle the building and execution of the string to make the process easier and reusable. Use parameters (like you did in your current sql statement, just not for a column or table name) to prevent injection attacks.

|||Thanks for the advice, but I can't use stored procedures for this project, or I would've done it that way from the beginning.
Is there any way to define the @.variable to eliminate the implied quotes?

You can build the SQL dynamically with the column name, but still keep parameters for everything else. This will still limit sql injections.
A quick example:
cmdSearch =New SqlCommand("select * from sites where " & ColumnParam &" like @.sTerm order by site_name", conSites)' continue with code as normal, but no column parameter.|||Thanks, this did the trick. I'd tried doing it this way before but couldn't work out the syntax.
Much obliged.

Paginate VB options
My question is this how do i add the options for Charactors/Inch and Number of Lines per Page (setting this to 0 switches off paginate). Here is my code so far:-
Private Sub btnGenFile_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnGenFile.Click Dim
Exportpath As String Exportpath = "n:\Regatta Order Files\"
CrDiskfileDestinationoption = New DiskFileDestinationOptions
CrExportOption = CrReport.ExportOptions
CrDiskfileDestinationoption.DiskFileName = Exportpath + ("CHAN1" & sDate & ".txt")
With CrExportOption
.DestinationOptions = CrDiskfileDestinationoption
.ExportDestinationType = ExportDestinationType.DiskFile
.ExportFormatType = ExportFormatType.Text
End With
Try CrReport.Export()
'MessageBox.Show("Exported to " & CrReport.ExportOptions.DestinationOptions.DiskFileName)
txtStatus.Text = "Text File has been created, you can now tranfer to Regatta"
Catch ex As Exception
MessageBox.Show(Me, ex.Message, "Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error)
End Try
End Sub

Pagebreak for long texts in a textbox
I got a report than can grow depending on what information it gets.
My problem is that When I have a large text for a textbox.
Example of the problem:
I have a few textgroups thats gonna be printed out on a pdf. On page 1
we start of with some adresses and stuff and in the middle of the page
its gonna print out a description. The problem is that this description
for this particular case takes up roughly 75% of a A4-page. this means
that on Page 1 the header 'description' prints in the middle of the
page, then it jumps to Page 2 and prints out the text for
'description'. This leaves half of Page 1 blank, which isnt really good
looking. How do I get RS to start filling page 1 with the text, and
then put in a pagebreak in the middle and move the rest of the text
that didnt fit in onto page 2?
And if it can sence so it doesnt break in the middle of a word that
would be nice too :)
Its a ordinary textbox that gets it values from a SQL server.
Hope anyone understood my problem and has a good solution

Peter Berglundforgot to mention..its RS2000 we use .. :)
