Parameter not working

I am pretty new to reporting services and hope some of you experts can help.

I created a report from AS cube that has a column "Description" with 30 distinct values. The report has a multi-value parameter "Description" with the following details:

Data Type : String
Value Field: Description
Label Field : Description

The filter that i have on the table is =(Fields!Description.Value) = Cstr(Parameters!Description.Value(0))

When i preview the report i only see the top 1 item from the values that i select from the parameter list.

What am i doing wrong?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Rookie,

Try

=(Fields!Description.Value) in Join(Parameters!Description.Value,", ")

because you have a multi field value this would be a better approach.

Thanks for replying.

I just tried that. Now when i select more than one item in the parameter list, nothing displays. It works only if i select one value from the parameter list.

Any ideas?

|||

Rookie,

I was able to return results with setting my filters to

Expression =Cstr(Fields!Income1.Value)

Operator = In

Value = Join(Parameters!Report_Parameter_0.Value,"', '")

My parameter values were 1,2, 3, 4,

my Income was 1

when I selected 1 parameter, I recieve the expected results.

Ham

Yeah it works for me only when i select one value, if i select two values in the parameter, nothing displays.

Have no clue whats happening.

|||

Rookie,

I played around with this for a bit, I was able to return multiple value with this expression in my filter.

Split(Join(Parameters!Inc.Value,","),",")

Ham

Rookie,

Try this is in your filter expression Split(Join(Parameters!Inc.Value,","),",")

Thanks a lot hammer2. This made it work.

Parameter defaults not working

Hi,

i have some parameter dropdowns in a report, and i have default values for those parameters, but when viewing the report through IE (just as a customer would), the defaults for the dropdowns are not working - in multivalue dropdowns nothing is selected, and in single select dropdowns the value "<Select Value>" is showing.

The ParameterValue entries of the parameters consist of MDX style values, so they would look like this:

ParameterCaption ParameterValue

-- --

1 January 2006 [Sales Date].[Date Description].&[2123]

and the rdl looks like this (the first one is single select, the second one multi):

<ReportParameter Name="FromSalesDateDescription">
<DataType>String</DataType>
<DefaultValue>
<Values>
<Value>[Sales Date].[Date Description].&amp;[2332]</Value>
</Values>
</DefaultValue>
<Prompt>From Date</Prompt>
<ValidValues>
<DataSetReference>
<DataSetName>FromSalesDateDescription</DataSetName>
<ValueField>ParameterValue</ValueField>
<LabelField>ParameterCaption</LabelField>
</DataSetReference>
</ValidValues>
</ReportParameter>

<ReportParameter Name="Saleserson">
<DataType>String</DataType>
<DefaultValue>
<Values>
<Value>[Saleserson].[Saleserson].[All]</Value>
</Values>
</DefaultValue>
<Prompt>Saleserson</Prompt>
<ValidValues>
<DataSetReference>
<DataSetName>SalesersonDataset</DataSetName>
<ValueField>ParameterValue</ValueField>
<LabelField>ParameterCaption</LabelField>
</DataSetReference>
</ValidValues>
<MultiValue>true</MultiValue>
</ReportParameter>

I will mention now that the MDX values used in the defaults are correct. Can anyone give me an idea about this?

Thanks,

sluggy

I have a similar problem. Did anyone ever get a hint on this?

TIA!

Don't know if I understand you correctly but I have something like this:

MyDateDataSet:

select GetDate() ID, 'Today' Description
union
select GetDate()-1, 'Yesterday'
union
select GetDate()-30, '30 days ago'
order by ID desc

I added parameter to my report: MyDateParam

Available values:

*from query

*Data set: MyDateDataSet

*Value field: ID

*Label field: Description

Default value:

*from query

*value field: ID

In RDL it looks like this:

<ReportParameter Name="MyDateParam">

<DataType>String</DataType>

<DefaultValue>

<DataSetReference>

<DataSetName>MyDateDataSet</DataSetName>

<ValueField>ID</ValueField>

</DataSetReference>

</DefaultValue>

<AllowBlank>true</AllowBlank>

<Prompt>MyDateParam</Prompt>

<ValidValues>

<DataSetReference>

<DataSetName>MyDateDataSet</DataSetName>

<ValueField>ID</ValueField>

<LabelField>Description</LabelField>

</DataSetReference>

</ValidValues>

</ReportParameter>

Either in designer and www it works fine. Default value is the first item in the query (“Today”).

ParallelPeriod MDX function not working

I created a calculated measure called [Previous Year Percent Rejected]. I used the following expression:

(ParallelPeriod([Year],1,[Time].[Time Hierarchy].CurrentMember),[Measures].[Percent Rejected])

The syntax checks out fine. However, when I try to use the calculation, I get an error message -- with a #VALUE! in the column.

The error message reads " The parallel period expression expects a level expression for the argument. A hierarchy expression was used."

I tried many different variations but I'm always receiving the same message. Any suggestions?

David

If you're using AS 2005, the problem could be that there is also an attribute hierarchy associated with [Year]. So, you could try fully specifying the [Year] level, like:

(ParallelPeriod([Time].[Time Hierarchy].[Year],1,[Time].[Time Hierarchy].CurrentMember),[Measures].[Percent Rejected])

Thank you Deepak. Your solution fixed the problem.

Paging & Visibility?

I have been trying to figure out why paging was not working on my
reports. I checked the report layout and could find nothing wrong.
Then I started turning off "features" and found that if I use this
statement in the Table Visibility box
"=IsNothing(Fields!CampaignMasterName.Value)" (w/o quotes) that paging
is completely turned off.
Why does this affect my paging? I use this statement so that nothing
is shown on startup of report, headers/footers. Any solutions would
be appreciated.Any conditional visibility disables page breaks. We hope to make
expression-based conditional visibility (but not toggle-based conditional
visibility) compatible with page breaks in some future version.

Pagination without datagrid

I'm working on a website where we're using .Net web services to feed data to a Flash front-end. The site will have a comments section and we want to display 15 or so comments per page with 'back' and 'next' functionalitiy. We'd also like to show the number of pages of comments and highlight the page they're on. The standard stuff that datagrids do so well.

How can this be accomplished without a datagrid?

There's a good page that explains a number of ways to do this using classic ASP. Some of the solutions they implement I can most likely use with .Net.

http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2120

But I wanted to ask the community. How to paginate without a recordset? Sql Server 2000 back-end, ASP.NET 1.x

Thanks.Why don't you want to use a datagrid?|||We aren't using a DataGrid because our 'front-end' isn't an aspx page it's a Flash application that we're feeding the data to via a webservice.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think a DataGrid is an option with this situation.|||

I see. Sorry, I missed that part. Well, if you are using web services to a flash front end, I would assume that your data isn't going to change very often. I would see about getting your data into a dataset, formatting the output into a cache object with a sqldependancy.

Beyond that, I would have to know a lot more about how your web service interacts with your flash front end.

Pagination is not working

Hi,

I have a problem with paging in my report. My report is quite simple, I have a table with two grouping levels. Paging is not appearing besides there is a lot of rows displayed.

When I change the report to use only one grouping level, the paging works fine. Is paging being calculated on the first grouping level ? I have about 10 to 20 rows at the first level but about 1500 rows on the second one.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi,

Where did you check the paging? Within your Visual Studio or for a deployed report? This can sometimes differ. Paging is not based on specific groups.

I check both in BIDS and in Browser.

Pagination is supposed to be calculated based on the number of rows returned isn't it ?

Thanks for your answer.

Taken from the MSDN site:

Pagination varies for each rendering format. For example, Adobe Acrobat (PDF), pagination is based on paper size. HTML pagination is not based on physical dimensions. Pages are separated by page breaks that you add to a report, but the actual length may vary from page to page. Check the Product Catalog sample report to view an example of pagination in HTML format. For more information about pagination, see Controlling Report Pagination.

Page totals in last page

Friends,
I am working on a report where I have to print all the page totals, in the last page.
Could you please give us some sort of solution.
Regards
JCYou need to use Three formulae
Formula1 Reset having the code

Whileprintingrecords;
numbervar x:=0;
Formula2 Sum having the code
whileprintingrecords;
numbervar x:=Tonumber(x+DatabaseField);
Formula3 Display having the code
whileprintingrecords;
numbervar x;
Place Formula1 at Page Header
Place Formula2 at Details section
Place Formula3 at Page Footer

Now suppress Formula1 and Formula2
